Treatment HIV/AIDS

The goal of HIV therapy is to reduce the level of virus in the blood levels as low as possible and for as long as possible. Currently available are three different classes of antiretroviral drugs. Treatment guidelines recommend using a combination of at least three drugs to form a single highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). Antiviral SOLUTIONS ROCHE Diagnostics accurate diagnosis is essential and a control to ensure sound management of HIV infection. Roche is working on the development and commercialization of diagnostic tests, such as technology of the Chain Reaction Polymerase chain reaction (PCR), which quantifies the levels of HIV in the blood. In 1994, the HIV-1 Amplicor Monitor Roche became the first test market for accurately measuring the exact amounts of HIV-1 RNA in blood ( “viral load”). This remains the only FDA-approved test to measure viral load. It is a highly sensitive test, guaranteed for loads up to 50 copies of viral RNA per ml., Well below the levels of other viral load tests. This degree of accuracy is important to evaluate the success and durability of HIV therapy.
The goal of HIV treatment is to prolong life and improve quality of life for patients living with HIV / AIDS. The drugs currently available achieve these goals by reducing the amount of virus circulating in the body (viral load) at minimum levels and prolonged. As the amount of virus decreases, the immune system tends to recover and thus increases the amount of CD4 + lymphocytes. These results were possible when using combinations of three or four drugs, known as “cocktails” or treatments for high efficiency.
The measurement system of HIV viral load is the most widely Amplicor HIV 1 Monitor, a test capable of detecting a version of 50 copies of viral RNA per milliliter, the sensitivity required for adequate monitoring of treatment of high effectiveness.
